Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
The museum began as a legacy of the great Centennial Exposition of 1876, held in Fairmount Park. At the end of the celebration, Memorial Hall, built as the Exposition's art gallery, remained open as the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Arts "for the improvement and enjoyment of the people of the Commonwealth."
In the first few decades, the collections consisted of industrial objects, as well as fine and decorative arts, such as European ceramics. Books were also among the Museum's earliest acquisitions, as were antique furniture, enamels, carved ivories, jewelry, metalwork, glass, ceramics, porcelain, textiles, and paintings.
The museum displays the works of famous masters:
Anton Peffenhauser, Augsburg, Germany.
Wolfgang Grosschedel, Landshut, Germany.
Desiderius Helmschmidt, Augsburg, Germany.
Jörg Seusenhofer, Innsbruck, Austria.
Kolman Helmschmidt, Augsburg, Germany.
Lorenz Helmschmidt, Augsburg, Germany.
