Kolman Helmschmidt.

Kolman Helmschmidt (Colman), (1471-1532г.), Augsburg, Germany.

The stigma is a tournament helmet with a star.

Koloman was the son of Lorenzo, and like his family, he took the surname Helmschmidt. The similarity between his name and the master's original surname has created difficulties in studying documents about his work, as his name was sometimes written with a "C" and other times with a "K." The first mention of Koloman in documentary sources occurs in 1507. In 1512, he worked for Charles V, and soon after, he entered the service of Emperor Maximilian I. In 1516, Maximilian I commissioned Koloman to create silver armor (silver-plated steel), but the armor was not fully completed by the date of Maximilian I's death in 1519, apparently due to delays in payment by the emperor, who earned the nickname "Penny-Penny Maximilian" from his contemporaries. To decorate the armor, Koloman hired renowned engravers – the Burgmayrs, son and father. It's worth noting that Koloman also worked closely with the engraver Jörg Sorg, who was married to his daughter, Catherine. Charles V repeatedly invited Koloman to work in Spain, but numerous commissions at home prevented the master from accepting. With the proceeds from his work, in 1525, Koloman purchased the "house on Caroline Strasse" from the widow of Thomas Burgmayr. In 1511, the master wrote a letter to the Marchioness Fanchesca di Mantova, in which he shared his thoughts on creating horse armor that would cover its head, body, and legs.
