Zrinskis Cabar Castle - Kaštel Petra Zrinski Čabar, Cabar, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Republic of Croatia.

People have settled in this region for a long time, as evidenced by the discovery of ancient pottery and the remains of a Roman wall in the surrounding area. Iron ore was first mined and processed here in Croatia.
The development of this region is inextricably linked to Petar Zrinski, who founded a town in 1642 on lands received through the will of Stjepan Frankopan and built a castle nine years later. Zrinski Castle remains the town's main landmark and contributed to its growth and development. In addition to the castle, an iron foundry was built in 1651, and a mint in 1657.
The castle is located in the town center and is a complex of four buildings arranged around a central courtyard with an arched entrance and two towers connected by a fortified wall.
There is an interesting legend about a secret tunnel that led from a room on the ground floor of the castle to an exit in the cliff, which could be used in an emergency. There are no records of the tunnel, only testimony from old-timers that the tunnel entrance was walled up for safety.
After the failure of the Zrinjski-Frankopani conspiracy in 1671, the further development of Gorski Kotar was completely altered; the region, along with the Croatian Littoral, came under the control of the Austrian court and Hungarian feudal lords.
The castle was restored several times in the 19th and 20th centuries. It now houses an art gallery, a collection of hunting trophies, museum rooms with period furniture in the style of the first half of the last century, exhibits related to a number of professions that were present in this region, and many photographs from the history of Čabar.
