PRINCELLY'S PASSION FOR COLLECTION

   Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said, "Collectors are happy people!" If you follow this theme, Karl Anton Fürst von Hohenzollern (1811-1885) must have been an especially happy man. The Hohenzollern castle in Sigmaringen owes him approximately 3,000 pieces, making it one of the largest private weapons collections in Europe. For the prince, the weapons collection was more than just a hobby. Considered a passionate historian, he began this collection of rare, valuable, and curious pieces in the mid-19th century. Some of the pieces were still in the family's possession at the time. The castle's inventory from 1743 already lists an "armory" with 43 types of weapons, including "rifles and swords."

   The armory's original appearance, with its neo-Gothic rib vaulting and wooden wall panels, has been preserved to this day. The original concept of creating an armory experience was also incorporated into the 2017 redesign.
