   Collecting has a tradition in the Czech lands for over 400 years. The collections of Emperor Rudolf II and the Habsburgs became world-famous. The golden age of Czech collecting was the early 18th century, when many aristocratic collections reached their peak. The Renaissance movement and the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art, founded in 1796, contributed to at least a partial recovery of the sold-out collections.

   The uniqueness of Opochny Chateau undoubtedly lies in its extensive collection of historical weapons and armor, one of the most important in the Czech Republic.

   The most extensive collection is that of European military weapons, housed in the Knights' Hall. Among the collections are noble and mercenary plate armor, cords from Toledo and Solingen, cigar muskets, 16th-century pistols, a collection of executive swords of German and French origin, and much more.
