Thanks to Dr. Mengele's donations and nearly 2,000 artifacts purchased at the St. Louis World's Fair, students in Reading were able to see, touch, and learn about objects from around the world. In 1907, the third floor of the Reading School District Administration Building was converted into a museum to provide students with an immersive, hands-on learning experience.

Arms and Armor Gallery.

This gallery features armor and weapons from Europe (from ancient times to the 19th century), Oceania, Africa, Asia, and the Persian Empire. Some highlights include: an impressive full Maximilian-style plate armor from Germany, circa 1520-30; a highly ornamented German equestrian muzzle from the mid-17th century; a variety of staves, swords, and horse armor elements; a 17th-century composite three-quarter armor suit for a cuirassier; a German tight helmet and burgonet from the late 16th century; Full plate armor for a Japanese samurai; intricate Persian bracers, shield and helmet; and gem-encrusted daggers.
