On January 25, 2013, the first construction work for the National War Museum (NWM) took place at the site of the former Soesterberg Air Base. The NWM houses the collections of the Military Museum in Delft (closed since January 6, 2013) and the Military Aviation Museum (closed since July 1, 2013).
The core of the armor and weapons on display is the private collection of F. A. Hofer (1850-1938), which was previously housed in De Doorweert Castle, located on the Rhine plain near Arnhem, and then in the Waffen Museum Delft.
