   The museum boasts a history that has continued uninterrupted for over two centuries. In the final decades of the eighteenth century, a group of enlightened scholars from Milan worked to save the artistic and historical evidence of the Lombard capital from dispersal, initiating the formation of various collections, which were assembled in permanent museums throughout the nineteenth century.
