Museo Poldi Pezzoli - Museum Poldi Pezzoli, Milano, Città metropolitana di Milano, Lombardia, Repubblica Italiana.
The Sala d'Armi was the first room in the Casa Museo, located on the ground floor in Sala Trivulzio. The current system, created in 2000, is the work of the great sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, who interprets the theme of the arsenal, enhancing its historical identity. Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli, a passionate collector of ancient weapons, entrusted the initial work to architect Giuseppe Balzaretto and set designer Filippo Peroni, in collaboration with Paolo Gazzoli for the stuccoes and Pompeo Bertini for the windows. The theatrical effect of the neo-Gothic style dominated the room, overflowing with banners, weapons, armor, trophies, display cases, and mannequins. The surrounding area was completely destroyed during World War II, and the precious objects were moved to the ground floor. The collection consists primarily of Milanese and Brescian Renaissance pieces, with a particular emphasis on ceremonial weapons. A second important group consists of German firearms from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Weapons were the passion of the first collector, the young Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli, who initially installed a crowded neo-Gothic armory. The collection comprises approximately a thousand pieces, including Western and Eastern arms and armor, notable among them being the Milanese Renaissance ceremonial armor by Pompeo della Cesa and sixteenth-century Brescian and German firearms.
The museum displays the works of famous masters:
Pompeo della Cesa, Milan, Italy.
Filippo Negroli, Milan, Italy.
