Filippo Negroli worked in the workshop of his father, Gian Giacomo Negroli (1463–1543), along with his brothers, Giovan Battista (1511–1591) and Francesco (1522–1600). He specialized in the manufacture of armor using the chasing process. His clients included royalty and the highest nobility of the time, whose armor was primarily intended for ceremonial occasions. His works are considered masterpieces of armor making.
