The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum is a house-museum created as a result of the extraordinary history of late nineteenth-century collectors, centered around two brothers: the Barons Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi. In a long, symmetrical room of the Galleria della Cupola, the two brothers have displayed weapons and armor from their collection, a hallmark of Lombard collecting. As in the rest of the house, ancient specimens are displayed side by side, either in the same style or as integrated artifacts, to create the impression that visitors are immersed in an ancient armory. In addition to defensive instruments such as shields and armor, the collection consists almost exclusively of white weapons—that is, weapons complete with blades; in the eyes of the brothers, these weapons, compared to firearms, were more functional in relation to the embodiment of the Renaissance they pursued.
