Arsenal
From the ramparts, one can enter the Rein building, built in 1706 and the last building in the castle courtyard. The castle collections are currently housed in the former castle commandant's quarters. A display case in the first room, now the armory, contains items discovered during the restoration of the medieval ceiling between the stables and the heraldic hall of the Romanesque palace: coins, glass fragments, crossbow bolts, and a bone stamp. Various pieces of armor and weapons are displayed on the walls. A long row of halberds, weapons of landsknechts (mercenary warriors) used primarily between the 15th and 17th centuries, is displayed at the back of the display case.
Armory
The Armory is also located in the Rein building. Here we will see one of the tour's most striking exhibits: the "Gimbel Collection," consisting of 14 life-size figures assembled in 1880. This valuable and rare collection reflects the development of the armored warrior from antiquity to the early modern period. Along with high-quality reconstructions, both original armor and high-quality models were used. The so-called "chronological line" between the figures symbolizes the time interval between the warriors: the longer the line, the greater the gap.
