Lezha Fortress - Kalaja e Lezhës, Lezha, Lezhe County, Republic of Albania.
Built on the foundations of the ancient Acropolis, the fortress is believed to have been constructed in the 8th century. Its construction went through many stages, culminating in 1520 under Sultan Selim I. In historical and archaeological literature, the Lezhë Fortress was long known as Elisonit Castle.
It had three gates, well protected by concealed towers and niches, making it impregnable thanks to its geographical location. In 2002, after restoration of the medieval fortress's foundations, it was discovered that the thickness of the walls had reached 4.30 meters, while it was previously believed to be 3.50 meters. To date, 12 gates and 48 defensive towers have been discovered.
