Marusevec Castle - Kaštel Maruševec, Marusevec, Varazdin County, Republic of Croatia.

The castle in Maruševac was first mentioned in 1547, when it belonged to the Vragović family. It was likely a wooden house on the site of today's castle, which subsequently changed owners and appearance several times over its 600-year existence. From the late 19th century, it belonged to the Pongrac family, who carried out several renovations and restorations on the estate and park. Around the 16th century, a stone-brick castle was built, protected by a moat to defend against frequent Ottoman attacks. Further renovations took place in the 17th century. The castle acquired its current appearance in the 19th century. A magnificent park with numerous pine trees and rare ornamental trees surrounds the castle, as well as an artificial lake and fountain.
During World War II, the castle was devastated, looted, and nearly destroyed. After the war, it housed an orphanage, and since 1969, it has been leased by the Adventist religious community, who have invested heavily in its restoration. Today, the castle belongs to the municipality of Maruševac. They are looking for a new tenant willing to invest in restoration and the development of tourism in this beautiful region.
