Orsic Castle

Orsic Castle - Dvorac Oršić u Gornjoj Bistri, Gornja Bistra, Zagreb County, Republic of Croatia.

Oršić Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1249. In 1487, the Croatian and Hungarian king, Matija Corvinus, gifted it to the noble Oršić family. In 1756, a castle was built on the remains of the fortress, now considered the pinnacle of Croatian Baroque castle architecture. Its oval central hall and chapel have survived to this day in their original form. Designed in the shape of a letter L, it has three floors, and the tower was originally built as a medieval fortress in the Gothic style. In the 19th century, after a major earthquake, a classical porch with a vestibule and Doric columns was added to the castle.
The castle is located on a beautiful wooded slope in the Medvednica Nature Park.
Today, this building houses the Museum of the Peasant Revolt (Muzej seljačkih buna).
