Klenovnik Castle - Dvorac Klenovnik, Klenovnik, Varazdin County, Republic of Croatia.
Klenovnik Castle is considered one of the largest in Croatia and is located north of Zagreb, near the town of Ivanec.
In the 13th century, it was gifted by the Croatian king to the ruler of Varaždin; the first documented mention of it corresponds to this time. In the 17th century, King Maximilian sold the castle to the Croatian families of Gašpar and Drašković. The castle was rebuilt, and for a time, it served as the seat of the Croatian parliament. Subsequently, the castle changed hands several times.
Near the castle is a park, which received its final appearance in the early 19th century. On the eastern edge of the park was a large 1.5-hectare lake.
Before its reconstruction in 1925, the castle had 90 rooms and 365 windows. Of the original castle interior, only the Baroque Church of St. Anthony, built in 1738, remains. It is one of the largest and most opulent palace churches and the crown jewel of Klenovnik Castle. From 1927 to the present day, a hospital for patients with pulmonary diseases has been located here.
