Wolkenstein Castle - Burgruine Wolkenstein, Wörschach, Styria, Republic of Austria.

Built around 1125 by the Counts of Wolkenstein

First documented in 1168 by "Ulrich von Wolchinstein"

Due to its strategically advantageous location and as the seat of the regional court, the Wolkenstein family dominated the middle Enns Valley

In the 16th and 17th centuries, Wolkenstein was a chalk beacon station. At the end of the 17th century, the seat of the regional court was moved to Irdning.

The remains of the outer bailey walls and the castle courtyard testify to the castle's former grandeur.

The ruins are now privately owned, but are being restored and maintained by the Wörschach Castle Association with great dedication and considerable effort.
