Hohenegg Castle - Burgruine Hohenegg, Eichberg, Lower Austria, Republic of Austria.
Hohenegg Castle has belonged to the Counts of Montecuccoli since 1628 and served as the family's residence and center of power until 1742.
The castle was built on the foundations of older Romanesque fortifications and experienced periods of great prosperity during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. During these periods, extensive expansions and renovations were undertaken.
For approximately a hundred years, the castle was unused for either private or commercial purposes and remained in a state of disrepair for decades. Since the 1970s, this deterioration has been halted thanks to the significant commitment of dedicated residents of Hafnerbach, and significant restoration work has been completed.
