Zrinskis Castle - Kaštel Zrinski, Kraljevica, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Republic of Croatia.
Zrinski's Old Town is an architectural complex built in the 17th century, consisting of two castles and a small church, strategically located in the town center.
The earlier castle, also known as the "little castle," was built on the site of an older fortress dating back to the Frankopan era. The first church, or the Church of St. Nicholas, according to information carved in stone, was built in 1471 during the reign of Martin Frankopan, as an addition to the existing fortress. It was initially used as a salt warehouse until 1790. In 1750, it became the parish church. A Baroque tower with Gothic elements was added to the building.
Also in the 17th century, Petar Zrinski added a new, larger section to the castle. It houses a large water reservoir. The castle is built in an adapted Baroque style.
After the fall of the Zrinski-Frankopan families, the castle suffered the same fate as the rest of the estates – it was plundered. As chroniclers noted, "the glass was removed from the windows, the locks were removed, the door frames were dismantled, and the marble slabs were removed from the floor."
Today, the grounds house the city administration, a library and reading room, as well as numerous residential and office spaces.
