Weidenholz Castle - Schloss Weidenholz, Waizenkirchen, Upper Austria, Republic of Austria.

Weidenholz Castle was likely built at the beginning of the 13th century. Besides the Starhemberg and Schaunberg families, and Duke Albrecht III of Austria, numerous other owners held this moated castle for varying lengths of time. Under the ownership of Achaz von Losenstein, the village of Waizenkirchen was granted market town status. Weidenholz Castle was also owned by Hans Ludwig, Count of Kuefstein, who was appointed Governor of Upper Austria in 1631 and shortly thereafter a Count of the Holy Roman Empire. He also founded the hospital in Waizenkirchen. In 1930, the moated castle, along with its park and meadows, became the property of the municipality of Waizenkirchen. It has since been used as a residential building, was renovated in 1989, and has also housed the regional music school since 1992.
