Porte de Hal - Porte de Hal Castle, Bruxelles, Brussels Hoofdstedelijk gewest, Koninkrijk België.
The Porte de Hal, the only remaining remnant of Brussels' second wall, was one of the seven gates to the medieval city. This building has undergone numerous transformations throughout its history, the first documentation of which dates back to the 19th century. In 1868, the architect Henri Beyaert adapted the building for its new function as a museum and significantly altered its appearance. The old gate was transformed into a neo-Gothic "fairytale castle."
The crowning achievements of the new scenography installed in the Porte de Hal are undoubtedly the works of the former Ducal Arsenal in Brussels. Whether it be the naturalized horses of Archduke Albert and Isabella, the Archduke's armor, his horse, or the so-called cradle of Charles V, they are truly gems of cultural heritage. All of these magnificent objects were part of the first works of art installed in the Porte de Hal in 1847.
Albert's Armor
Albert's armor and the matching armor of his horse are true works of art, likely crafted in Milan. They are carved, engraved, and fire-gilded throughout. This armor was not worn in battle, but was worn during parades and was undoubtedly a sign of immense wealth.
