Narodni muzej Slovenije-Metelkovi - National Museum of Slovenia, Ljubljana, Osrednjeslovenska regija, Zahodna Slovenija, Republika Slovenija.
The arms collection at the National Museum of Slovenia is the most important in the country in terms of historical value and the diversity of its exhibits. Chronologically, it spans the period from the High Middle Ages to the late 20th century. In addition to military, hunting, and sporting weapons once used by our ancestors, it also includes examples from foreign cultures, from Africa to the Far East.
Slovenian museum collections currently contain relatively few examples of medieval and early modern defensive equipment. A special place among these is occupied by a suit of armor made in the 1530s by the renowned Nuremberg master Valentin Siebenbürger. It is the only original, fully preserved example of true "knightly" armor in Slovenia.
Dozens of swords from the High and Late Middle Ages were found in the bed of the Ljubljanica River. The Ljubljanica Sword, among several examples on display in the museum, is perhaps the most outstanding representative of its class from the early 15th century. In medieval Europe, the double-edged sword was considered the most recognizable knightly weapon.
The museum displays the works of famous masters:
Valentin Siebenbürger, Nuremberg, Germany.
