Museo Lázaro Galdiano - Museum Lazaro Galdiano, Madrid, Provincia de Madrid, Comunidad de Madrid, Reino de España.
The Lázaro Galdiano Museum opened to the public on January 27, 1951, after its assets were inventoried by Emilio Camps Cazorla (1903-1952), fulfilling José Lázaro Galdiano's wish that his collection be used for the education and enjoyment of future generations.
The museum's opening was a pleasant surprise for the public and cultural professionals, both for the richness and diversity of its collections and for the new museography employed in its exhibitions. Indeed, the fruitful collaboration of two eminent professionals—José Camón Aznar (1898-1979), the first director of the Foundation and Museum, and Fernando Chueca Goytia (1911-2004), the architect responsible for the renovation of the Palacio de Parque Florido—led to the creation of a model space for its time. Although it occupied four floors of the old building, the project did not seek to recreate the house as such, but to present the various collections according to museum, historiographical, and aesthetic criteria. Thus, with the exception of the main floor and two rooms on the second floor and one on the third, which retained their original layout and decoration, the remaining spaces were radically altered to achieve a more orderly environment and to accommodate the numerous works.
