Deutsches Historisches Museum - German Historical Museum, Berlin, Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
The collection is the oldest in the German Historical Museum and is closely linked to the history of the Zeughaus. It comprises approximately 30,000 objects—from a Roman Gladius sword to a Russian Kalashnikov assault rifle, from a tiny locking component of a hunting rifle to a field cannon weighing several tons.
The collection focuses on the armament of German armed forces from the 18th century onward, the use of their technology, and outstanding European ceremonial and decorative weapons of the 16th and 17th centuries. There is also a large inventory of weapons and armor from the Middle Ages.
Today, the Militaria collection bears witness to and provides a source for the history of important stages and decisions in German history. It also documents technical and cultural history, as well as contemporary and current events. As with all other areas of the collection, it relies on donations from public and private sources.
