Geyersberg Castle - Burg Geyersberg, Friesach, Carinthia, Republic of Austria.

Castle complex surrounding a square courtyard; a mighty five-story Romanesque keep, crenellated curtain wall with barbican, three gates, connecting walls to the former town fortifications; the Chapel of St. Anne, dating from around 1400, is located above the inner gate of the curtain wall. Renaissance portal, flat wooden ceiling with diamond carving from the late 16th century, wall paintings from the late 14th century. The first structure is mentioned in 1271, but dates back to the time of Conrad I (1130). Owned by the Archdiocese of Salzburg, J. A. Auer received the castle as a fief in 1690. He presumably had the castle, which had burned down at that time, rebuilt. Frequent changes of ownership followed; uninhabitable since 1750, Geyersberg was completely restored in 1912 and a new west wing was added (under Wilhelm von Dietrich). Extensive restorations have been carried out more recently.
