Bayerisches Armeemuseum - Bavarian Army Museum, Ingolstadt, Oberbayern, Freistaat Bayern, Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
A large collection of ancient weapons is housed in the first hall of Dürnitz Castle. This demonstrates that the oldest part of the museum's collection originates from the former arsenals in Bavaria. For centuries, not only weapons for use but also valuable memorabilia were stored here. Today, it is important to tell the museum's story. It was founded in Munich in 1879 to display evidence of Bavarian history to the public. At that time, they were proud of their military achievements, particularly the war against France in 1870/71. But they also began to explore these objects more closely and established connections with many other museums around the world.
The museum was severely damaged in 1945, and in 1972 it moved to Ingolstadt. The objects in the collection are no longer trophies, but rather testament to a rich history marked by war and violence.
The museum displays the works of famous masters:
Wolfgang Grosschedel, Landshut, Germany.
