Desiderius Helmschmidt (Colman), (1513-1579г.), Augsburg, Germany.

The stigma is a tournament helmet with a star.
Desiderius Helmschmidt (Kolman) was the son of Coloman Kolman (Helmschmidt). After Coloman's death in 1532, Desiderius inherited workshops in Augsburg, which were shared with the Burgmayr family. Desiderius initially worked with the armorer Lutzenberger, who married Desiderius's stepmother in 1545. In 1550, Desiderius became a member of the city council, and in 1556 he became court armorer to Emperor Charles V. He subsequently served in the same position for Maximilian II. Desiderius apparently used his father's hallmark, which has led to some confusion in attributing works by the two masters. The Royal Armory Museum in Madrid displays a ceremonial suit of armor for Philip II, dated 1550. The armor is richly decorated with embossing and complemented by a round shield with an engraving, dated April 15, 1552. On this shield, Desiderius reflected his rivalry with the Negroli family of armorers.
